Parliament term 4 integrated learning

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

  • Parliament has 120 seats + 1 for speaker.
  • John key sits in the 4th seat on the right.
  • Governor general opens parliament every 4 years.

Here is the link to my compare and contrast map explaining the difference between democracy and dictatorship.

Music term 3

Music

Music

Paste this into the blog post

I can describe the characteristics of music in songs from the past and present and from different genres.

Over the past 9 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of various times and genres.

I can name and define these characteristics of music… (list them below and explain what they are)

1.Harmony:A combination of music notes to make a pleasing effect.
2.Melody:Multiple notes that are played at once. The part that gets stuck into your head.
3.Form:How the song is laid out. E.g the tempo, harmony and etc.
4.Timbre:What makes the song unique and different.
5.Rhythm:A repeated pattern of movement or sound. E.g drums. Also like the beat of the song.

What did you find most interesting during this topic.
I found old songs interesting because they're so different to the latest songs.

Which characteristic do you find yourself picking up on when listening to your own music now?
When I listen to my own music I often hear rhythm because it's just really easy to hear( and form you can listen and Know the layout of the song.

Here is an example of my learning

Taking action project.

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Scott M and we decided to create a water filter.

Here is a link what we made.

In this project we decided that our success criteria were: (list the criteria you created on slide 7)

water filter
Why is this important?
Needs to clean the water.
Because that is what a water filter does and if it doesn’t produce clean water people can get sick.
Needs materials.
Without the materials you can’t make anything.
Needs to be strong.
Because you could just drop it and it would break.
Needs to be quite small/must be easy to transport
If you can’t move the water filter  around in small places. It means you have to go to the water filter and use it.
Has to last long.
So you can use it over and over and it makes the water clean every time.

Overall our project met this criteria because we created a kind of drinkable water.

Koru games

The activity we did was football
Two highlights were

  1. Playing St Thomas A because it was a really difficult match and fun, yes we won and it was just really good, we went to penalty's and won
  2. Another highlight was playing against Middleton A because it was hard yet we won 2:0 I was defending one of Middleton's best players or maybe best, but still he couldn't get past most of the time which was a great achievement.
I am proud of winning the whole tournament because we had won even though there were a whole bunch of amazing teams.
One tip for people going to Koru Games next years year 7's is if you play against a really hard team try your best.

Assessment Task: relate tables, graphs, and equations to linear and simple quadratic relationships found in number and spatial patterns.

Assessment Task

WALT: relate tables, graphs, and equations to linear and simple quadratic relationships found in number and spatial patterns.

Assessment Task: A car rental business has two rental schemes, red and blue for rentals up to ten days. These schemes are advertised in their brochures with this graph.
Use the following information to work out how many days of rental would carry

the same total cost on either the blue or the red scheme (show your working).

  • The area under the graph gives the total cost of renting.
  • The schemes each follow a linear pattern, cutting the vertical axis at 120 and 170.
  • Both blue and red schemes cost $110 on the 4th day of rental.

Maths Measurment

WALT:I can apply the formula to solve a range of questions polygons, circles, composite shapes, prisms & cylinders.

For the last few weeks(before the holidays) we have been looking at Area, perimeter & volume. I have been trying to find like the volume of cones and all sorts of other shapes. Also for perimeter I had some trouble with Pythagoras and also for area I've been just finding areas of composite shapes.

My next step is to keep revising.
